Hello all,
I hope you have been enjoying a relaxing break, but it is time to begin looking forward to our next cycle. We will be performing Mozart’s famous opera, Cosi fan Tutte. This is an important work and a great opportunity to learn the art of opera playing with a standard repertory piece. Evan, should have emailed you links to your part by now, and it is important that you prepare the first act for week one. If you do not have access to your part, please email Evan. It is also important that you number the measures for each “number” so that we can rehearse effectively. There are no rehearsal markers or measure numbers in your part, so you can imagine it is near impossible to rehearse with putting in measure numbers. For Act 1, the most important “numbers” are the Overture, No 13 (sextet), and No. 18 (finale). Below is a guide to number measures and tempi for Act 1. In most cases, I am not including recits because the orchestra will not play them (harpsichord only).
Overture – 261 measures, opening is quarter = 72, presto is half = 66
No. 1 Terzetto – 61 measures, quarter = 132
No. 2 Terzetto – 54 measures, measure 55 begin the recit. and restarts numbering to measure 1. Tempo is half note = 106
No. 3 Terzetto – 76 measures, quarter note = 134
No. 4 Duetto – 154 measures, eighth note = 76, Allegro, quarter = 126

Please take the time to prepare for our first rehearsal, and mark your parts. We have only three weeks to learn over 3 hours of music. I recommend the Muti recording on YouTube. http://youtu.be/Ay0HhspL6cc. You will get physical copies on Monday of week 1.
